Giorgio Franceschetti (S’60-M’62-SM’85-F’88-LF’01) was born in Italy. Hehas been Full Professor of Electromagnetic Wave Theory at University ofNaples, Italy, since 1968. He was a Visiting Professor at the Universityof Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1976 and 1977, and at the Universityof California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1980 and 1982. He was a ResearchAssociate at Caltech, Pasadena, in 1981 and 1983, a Visiting Professorat National Somali University in 1984, Somalia, and a Visiting Professorat the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in 1995. He haspublished several books and more than 130 refereed papers in the fieldof applied electromagnetics (reflector antennas, transient phenomena,shielding, nonlinear propagation and scattering) and, more recently, inthe field of SAR data processing and simulation. He has lectured inseveral summer schools in China, Great Britain, Holland, Italy, Spain,Sweden, and the United States. Prof. Franceschetti was a FulbrightScholar at Caltech, Pasadena, in 1973. He was the recipient of severalnational and international awards. He was Director of IRECE, a ResearchInstitute of CNR (the Italian National Council of Research) and memberof the board of the Italian Space Agency (ASI). He is currently also anAdjunct Professor at UCLA, and a Distinguished Visiting Scientist at theJet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Pasadena, USA.
